On Saturday, the Thirsty Planet Brewing Company hosted a vaccination event. If people opted for a syringe, they were allowed to go home with a free case of beer.
“You know, when the numbers started going up, the frustration started and we just realized we had to do something,” said Brian Smittle, president and founder of Thirsty Planet Brewing Company. “And I would encourage other business owners to do whatever they have. Whether it’s an oil change, teeth cleaning or anything else you can. We have beer, so we offer it to help people vaccinate. “
The brewery, located at 8201 S. Congress Ave. partnered with Livingston Med Lab for the event. They issued Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. In the end, they vaccinated 25 people.
Andrew Litaker of Livingston Med Lab provided recordings at the event. He believes it helps when companies like Thirsty Planet hold vaccine events.
“I think having a fun atmosphere definitely helps people feel a little more relaxed, take the push, and help the community,” said Andrew Litaker of Livingston Med Lab.
He says with the threat of the Delta variant, he has seen more people get vaccinated in recent weeks.
“I think people who were hesitant before looked up the numbers and realized that the time was right,” said Litaker.
The people at the event had a variety of reasons for inclusion.
“My employer highly recommended it,” said one woman who was vaccinated. “And if my colleagues like it, that’s what it is.”

Smitle said the Delta variant is causing some concern for business owners who have already suffered a major blow during the pandemic. He says things have gotten better and they want it to stay that way.
“We sold 369 kegs in the tenth week they canceled South by Southwest,” Smittle said, looking back. “Three weeks later, I sold five. That was how quickly all the bars and restaurants closed and everything closed.”
Smittle says that every person who gets vaccinated helps the community take a step in the right direction. He personally thanked the people who had come to get the shot.
Thirsty Planet is known for its Thirsty Goat Amber, Dance Pants Kolsch, Cosmic Butterfly Kettle Sour and the Buckethead IPA.
